Manchester City is best known for being the richest club in world football. The club has had a roller coaster existence with its fans suffering the ups and downs that come with supporting a club more than most.

The club's most successful period was in the late 1960s and early 1970s when they won the League Championship, the FA Cup, the League Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup under the management team of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison and with players including Colin Bell, Mike Summerbee and Francis Lee.

After losing the 1981 FA Cup Final, the club went through a period of decline culminating in relegation to the third tier of English football in 1997. The club has since regained top flight status where they have spent the majority of their history.

The club was taken over in 2008 by Abu Dhabi based Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed and instantly became the richest club in world football. Since the takeover the team has been transformed with the club's record transfer fee smashed on a number of occasions. In 2011, Manchester City qualified for the Champions League for the first time and in 2012 went one further by winning the Premier League for the first time before winning it again in 2014.
